Auntie Boi's Gift - A Book Dash Initiative
The idea is to create a children's book in 12 hours, Teams are split in to 3, an Illustrator (Ndumiso Nyoni), designer (Bianca Wiesner) and a writer (Baeletsi Tsatsi). The Teams have 12 hours to write, design and illustrate a book.
Auntie Boi's Gift was also chosen for a partnership with Tiso Blackstar, Nal'ibali and PRAESA to produce a bilingual newspaper supplement every 2 weeks (in 7 different languages!), with stories, literacy activities, reading club tips and support - to inspire and guide parents, caregivers, teachers, librarians and reading clubs to make reading and storytelling meaningful, enjoyable and accessible.
Each edition, at least 100 000 supplements are also distributed free of charge direct to reading clubs, community organisations, libraries, schools and other partners in the Eastern Cape, Western Cape, Gauteng, Free State, Limpopo and KwaZulu-Natal.
These fortnightly reading-for-enjoyment supplements can also be found in several Tiso Blackstar titles:
· Sunday Times Express (Western Cape)
· Sunday World (KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng)
· Sunday World (Free State)
· Sunday World (Limpopo)
· The Herald and Daily Dispatch (Eastern Cape)
The story has been translated into Afrikaans, Sepedi, Setswana, seSotho, isiZulu, xiTsonga and isiXhosa
